Local Small Business Spotlight: The Sconery Shop (New Braunfels, TX)

You are in for a literal treat with this week’s local business feature: The Sconery Shop!‍ ‍

Getting to meet the owner Katie and learn about her business (and enjoy some scones) was pure delight. Not only are the scones delicious, but her heartfelt mission and vision for this venture is one that serves a higher purpose. Meeting her, it’s clear that she’s both dedicated and driven to serve others and does it with the utmost love, care and attention.

The longer I’ve done this series, the more it’s become clear to me that New Braunfels is truly made up of amazing people doing work that improves the lives of others, adding to the beautiful dynamic way of life we have in this place we get to call home.

‍ ‍

I’d love for you to check out all the businesses featured HERE‍. ‍

Meet the Owner of The Sconery Shop

It was so nice meeting Katie and getting to hear about her business and the vision she’s carrying for it.

It’s not every day you meet someone living out their faith by using their talents and drive together while creating opportunities for others.

Plus, the scones are really, really good! Definitely need to give them a try!

How It All Began ‍

What inspired you to start this business, and how did it come to life here in New Braunfels?

After serving 20 years in the Air Force, God gave me my second calling and that was to open The Sconery Shop to eventually employ people with special needs like my daughter who has Down Syndrome. Only 6% of colleges and universities offer post-secondary education opportunities for people with intellectual developmental disabilities, and we want to change that. By providing space and the opportunity for employment it helps people with IDDs to continue to grow, learn and develop after they age out of school. It also provides the community the chance to learn just what these amazing people can do. The vision for The Sconery Shop is about 3 years old although we launched 3 months ago and is now a vision come to life. It's growing because of people like you! People here in NB are so caring and supportive and because of their generosity The Sconery Shop is already growing.

Serving the New Braunfels Community

What do you love most about serving this community?

The people. Always people. From assisted living facilities to schools to neighbors. Every scone tells a story and brings people together. I love the opportunity to listen to people who have recently lost loved ones to welcoming their new arrivals. It's an absolute joy and honor to be a part of their day.

Behind the Scenes of a Small Business

What’s something most people don’t see or know about running your business day-to-day?

The early mornings....and the dishes!!! The sweeping is sooo extra people see Instagram photos and the lovely scones. I see the chaos and mess behind the beauty. They also don’t see the prayer that goes over every bake I do no matter how small or big. Each batch is prayed for.
