Local Business Spotlight: Plant Culture Potting Bar (New Braunfels, TX)

This is the second installment of my ongoing project to highlight local small businesses that make up the heart of our community.

Be sure to follow along as I share their stories, what makes them special, and how you can support them.

These features are about going beyond what someone does, and more about the people behind the business and the stories that shaped them.

Meet the Owner of Plant Culture Potting Bar

I’m excited to introduce Una Alexander, owner of Plant Culture Potting Bar, a houseplant boutique and potting bar located near downtown New Braunfels, Texas.

This is truly a one of a kind offer here in town!  If you haven’t already checked out this place you definitely need to stop by.  There’s plenty of free parking, it’s a super convenient location and the vibe is so nice! It’s like stepping into an oasis, a breath of fresh air… Who couldn’t use a bit of that?

About the Business

Tell us about your business and what you offer.

We are a unique houseplant boutique where you can pot plants with premium soils and receive a care plan for success. We sell pots, soils, fertilizer, plant care sprays, art, and amazing plants. We also have space to host groups of 10-12 for fun team building experiences or small parties, and we offer a nice variety of fun workshops which we update on our website monthly. www.ourplantculture.com

How It All Began

What inspired you to start this business, and how did it come to life here in New Braunfels?

Moving to New Braunfels in 2021, I knew I wanted to bring a small business to life. I had owned and operated a family business in San Antonio the previous 20 years and just felt it was time to create something new for both myself and this community. I had visited a potting bar in Dallas and was immediately in love with the concept. I felt NB would be the perfect place for a similar plant boutique and a potting bar. It's more than a plant store, it is a planting experience.

Behind the Scenes of a Small Business

What’s something most people don’t see or know about running your business day-to-day?

It can take half a day to get every plant watered and tended to. I have to give the plants a ton of care so they are healthy and beautiful for purchase.

Values & Vision

What values guide the way you show up for your clients or customers?

I really value a customer's experience and feel my name is on the line. Therefore, I always want everyone to feel special and included at Plant Culture. I strive to help everyone who walks in the doors and I am always open to friendship and connection.

How to Support This Business

How can the community best support your business right now?

Even if buying plants is out of the question for you, sharing my information and posts on social media along with leaving positive Google reviews, if you have ever visited the store, helps other potential plant-loving people find my business.
